Can I Remove a Result from Google Search in Australia?

Search result removal is not the same as deleting a webpage
A Google result points to content hosted elsewhere. Removing that result from Google does not normally delete the source page, stop direct visits or remove it from other search engines. Likewise, taking down a webpage does not instantly refresh every search snippet or remove copies on other sites.
Before requesting help, define the outcome: removal at the source, exclusion of a result from Google, or a refresh of an outdated title or snippet. These tasks involve different decision-makers and should not be described as interchangeable.
Three routes to assess for unwanted search results
Source removal means asking the website owner or hosting platform to remove or change the underlying content. Google removal requests concern content eligible under Google’s policies or applicable legal processes. Neither route guarantees approval simply because a result is unwanted.
An outdated-content refresh is different again: it can be relevant after a page disappears or changes significantly but Google still shows old information. It is not a way to remove accurate information that remains live. Check Google’s current guidance to choose the appropriate process.
Prepare a search result removal checklist
Save the exact source URL, the Google result link, the search terms used and a dated screenshot. Note whether the source page still opens, whether it has changed, and which words or personal details concern you. If several URLs contain the content, list them separately.
For personal information, avoid copying sensitive details into an initial enquiry. Identify the type of information and its location first. Do not share passwords, identity documents or financial data unnecessarily. An assessment should explain any additional evidence needed and how it should be handled.
What happens after a search result removal request?
The platform or website owner may ask for more information, approve a narrower action, or decline the request. Keep the decision and reference number. A change to one URL does not automatically remove reposts, images, social posts or alternative URLs.
Ask any provider to specify the exact outcome, URLs, fees and follow-up terms in writing. For Australian legal concerns, seek advice from a qualified lawyer rather than assuming a general right to remove unfavourable coverage. ReviewResolve cannot promise a search position, deletion of all copies or permanent removal.
